Workshop at KI strengthens collaboration in the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable health
A 3-day workshop was held at the end of August at Karolinska Institutet (KI) with colleagues from KI and Makerere University, working together at the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health. The aim was to continue to develop the centre, to strengthen the collaboration and to meet the KI leadership.
The team also met with Annika Östman Wernerson, KI:s president, Martin Bergö, Vice President and Erika Dabhilkar, Head of the Office of International Relations.
“I would like to congratulate you. I hear about different projects all the time but it is truly inspiring, that you have been able to build this virtually and this is not something you do with a partner you don’t know. International cooperation has sort of a ladder that gets more complex each step you take. And this goes to prove that we have been working together for 20 years otherwise this would not have happened, ” said Professor Annika Östman Wernerson, president of Karolinska Institutet.
The chairpersons of the Centre of Excellence of Sustainable Health, professor Rhoda Wanyenze and professor Tobias Alfvén presented the work of the centre and discussed the progress made so far as well as challenges and opportunities going forward.
Professor Rhoda Wanyenze speaking to working group and invited guests.
The working group members were responsible for leading different sessions throughout the workshop including monitoring & evaluation, communication & dissemination and research.
“It is of immense added value to meet in person, in addition to the regular online meetings. Coming to Karolinska Institutet is like coming home.” Professor Wanyenze said when she thanked the team for the warm welcome to KI and continued “This virtual centre does not need a physical building as it is based on friendship. We have gone through a pandemic and war, but nothing can stop us and that commitment is also part of sustainable health.”
The workshop took place August 30th to September 1st in Stockholm, Sweden.
