Launching Ceremony of Benaadir University Innovation Hub

The primary purpose of the event was to commemorate the inauguration of the BU Innovation Hub and to celebrate this momentous occasion. Distinguished guests were in attendance, hailing from diverse sectors such as the academic community, government officials, civic society, and young individuals. Among the notable attendees were the university rector, rectors from other esteemed institutions, and representatives from key government ministries, including Youth and Sports, Social Affairs, and Health.

The BU Innovation Hub is designed to foster collaboration among students, researchers, industry experts, and innovators. Together, they aim to shape a more promising future, with a special emphasis on digital media innovation and the empowerment of individuals to convey impactful narratives. Continuous updates, upcoming events, and ongoing projects will be communicated through both social media channels and the official BUI Hub website. The central objective is to create a realm of boundless possibilities through the pursuit of discovery and innovation.

The opening ceremony commenced with a recitation of the Qur’an by Ali Aden, followed by welcoming and introductory remarks from Eng. Rage Adem, Director of the Innovation Hub. He articulated, 

"The center strives to enhance the competencies of young individuals through collaborations with local and international organizations, ultimately enabling our participation in global competitions."

A significant highlight of the event was the participation of Nina Viberg, SDGCap Project Coordinator from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, who joined via a Zoom call. She delivered an opening speech, briefly outlining the SDGCap project's goals and Karolinska Institutet's support for the newly established Innovation Hub. This collaboration aims to address youth unemployment and equip Somali youth with essential skills.

Sahra Ahmed Koshin, the Founder of Somalia Gender Hub, also joined the event via Zoom, where she encouraged Benadir University to open its innovation avenues, particularly to address challenges faced by women and girls in the region.

Dr. Idil Mohmed Abdirahman, Founder of Kaafia Center and representing Civil Society, emphasized the significance of innovation in nurturing youth skills. She noted, 

"Innovation hubs bridge the gap between conventional university teachings and the practical knowledge acquired through them. They serve as guiding platforms, directing youthful ideas towards their future pursuits."

During the closing segment, several distinguished guests provided closing remarks. Senator Dufle expressed, "The establishment of a dedicated center for youth advancement demonstrates the remarkable strides Banadir University has taken."

One of the keynote speakers, Dr. Dalmar, Former Rector of Benadir University, underlined the Hub's role in providing students with the tools to forge successful careers while positively impacting their communities. He remarked, 

"This Hub will serve as a vital space for students to harness their knowledge and cultivate skills, fostering both personal and societal growth."

H E Mohamed Barre, the minister of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, delivered the opening speech, stating, 

"I am pleased that universities are committed to nurturing self-assured and creative professionals. They are also actively preparing for domestic and international investments to reduce the nation's reliance on imports."

The guest speakers and participants voiced their collective enthusiasm for the innovation hub's inauguration. They shared high hopes for how the Hub will transform the perspectives and capabilities of young individuals who seek skills and mentorship to revolutionize the market through innovation and creativity, as well as those aspiring to establish their own businesses.

The event drew attendance from diverse departments, including civil society and government, totaling 75 participants. Attendees were provided with refreshments, and guided tours of the premises were organized for their benefit.
