Involving students as communicators of SDG:s on campus to raise their UNIKIN awareness and interest on SDG

A workshop to generate new knowledge and innovative solutions and to communicate it to relevant actors, for evidence-based action and policymaking, to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG:s), was organised by the DRC team with the students coordination team of University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN). It is the outcome aim for targeted academic institutions, one of the target actors in the SDGCap project.

On October 29th the DRC team in the SDGCap project conducted a training workshop with the student coordination team and all faculty delegates. The aim of the activity was to involve students as communicators of SDGs on campus to raise their UNIKIN awareness and interest on SDG.

The students were first introduced to the model of mass communication and its history. Afterwards the participants discussed the best channels of communication on SDGs. The 34 participants were divided into four discussion groups with five thematics to discuss: channels, activities, needs, barriers and facilitators.

Through the software Mentimeter, a wordcloud was created with answers that participants could send in with their thoughts and suggestions on the themes. The five wordclouds can be found below. The next step for this activity will be a mass sensitization and students themselves will be communicators in the profit of the university community.
