Project launch: Wetlands for Climate Resilience
Our new exciting project Win-Win in the Wetlands for Climate Resilience has officially launched on 30 January in Kampala. This flagship initiative is set to transform how Uganda protects, restores, and benefits from its wetlands — a vital part of the country’s climate-resilient future.
Wetlands are natural infrastructure that:
- Absorb and store carbon, slowing climate change
- Filter untreated wastewater, heavy metals, and agricultural runoff
- Reduce flood risks in urban and peri-urban areas
- Support biodiversity, livelihoods, and local economies
Implemented in collaboration with:
- Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH)
- Makerere University – School of Public Health & College of Natural Sciences
- Karolinska Institutet, Sweden
- Ministry of Water and Environment MWE
- Ministry of Health - Uganda
- Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA)
- National Environment Management Authority Uganda
- Tree Adoption Uganda
The Win-Win project will systematically assess the multi-dimensional impacts of wetland restoration and co-design, pilot, and evaluate evidence-based interventions for sustainable wetland conservation, with a strong focus on urban Uganda. We’re excited to embark on this journey with our partners and communities.
